What is a Spore?

There are many different ways to explain what a spore is and, as with everything to do with this type of thing, we could go into exacting details but to keep everything very basic a spore is the reproductive part of a particular plant that has been adapted for dispersal (as opposed to planting) and surviving for extended periods of time in, sometimes, unfavorable conditions. Spores form part of the life cycles of many bacteria, plants, algae, fungi, amongst many others, and the main difference between a spore and a seeds is that spores have very little stored food resources compared with seeds which are designed to feed themselves until they are large enough to take nourishment from the surrounding environment. Once the spores have dispersed, settled and the growing conditions are favorable for life then it will start to develop into a new plant.

Now that is keeping things very simple but you can, hopefully, now understand why it is so important to treat your surfaces after the killing or manual removal of the moss or lichen. Firstly spores will have been spread over the surface during the removal process and secondly fresh spores will land on the, now cleaned, area.

It is for this very reason why we recommend using BATIMOSS CR and/or HYDROSIL for a freshly cleaned surface. Batimoss CR will kill any spores and stay on the surface to inhibit re-growth and Hydrosil will act as a sealer to protect the surface.
