Moss Killer - Remove Moss From a Tennis Court

Certain areas within a tennis court and the run off areas will always become covered with moss eventually. Whether it is the playing surface itself or just along one side or one end. Tennis courts are normally surrounded by trees and / or bushes which provide shade and a perfect environment for moss. This not only looks bad but can become slippery and therefore dangerous.

Treatment is quite straight forward and can easily be undertaken on a DIY basis. Given the larger areas involved we do recommend using a knapsack sprayer, HD16 or X15, for the application of the moss killer. This makes the whole process much quicker, easier and reduces the workload.

PREPARATION

Before doing any treatment, the surface should be brushed to remove any loose growth, dirt, leaves etc. You will find that a vast majority of the moss growth can be removed in this way which reduces the cost of the process and ensures better results.

If it is possible, then some people prefer or are prepared to wash the surface with a small pressure washer. This will remove growth but undertake this process with caution as larger pressure washers could cause damage to the surface.

If the area is surrounded by trees or large shrubs then it may help to cut these back slightly to allow more light onto the surface which will allow the area to dry quicker and not remain damp all of which encourage fresh growth.

TREATMENT

If the surface has any areas of lichen coverage then you can 'spot' pre-treat these areas with RAPID MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batiface. This kills the growth on contact and should be left on the surface for between 30-60 minutes. After this time the product should be rinsed with either a hosepipe or bucket and brush or a SMALL pressure washer. The washing not only rinses the product but also removes the dead growth from the surface.

If pre-treatment was required or once the area has been brushed, and is dry, we advise the application of CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR This will kill any remaining growth and invisible spores and is designed to stay on the surface to inhibit re-growth.

FUTURE

The future treatment of the area depends upon the surrounding area. Some courts will show signs of fresh growth within 8-10 months especially if they are surrounded by trees or allow water to puddle. Otherwise you may not see any fresh growth for up to 3-years after the initial treatment. Either way you should try to keep the court swept as often as possible. Users tend to either apply a new coat of CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR on an annual basis or wait until the first signs of fresh growth appear. At which point simply brush the surface and, when dry, apply CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR.

Please remember that the whole playing area can be treated or just the areas that grow the moss. Many courts have growth either to one side, one end or around tramlines. If this is the case then these areas are the ones that need the treatment.
