Driveway - Tarmac

Moss killing - Cleaning Tarmac / Bitumen DrivewayTarmac & Bitumen driveways and paths, whilst looking great and being extremely functional are breeding grounds for moss, lichen & algae. The surface is very rough in its construction which is great for growth to get a hold onto the surface and for retaining an amount of moisture.
There are a number of ways to treat these areas depending upon the way that you wish to work, the tools at your disposal and how much work you wish to do. However, as with many other processes the work should be relatively light all you really need to do is to allow the products to do their job.
PREPARATION
Before you do any treatments you should brush the area, preferably with a good stiff brush, to remove as much dirt and loose growth as possible. If the area has weeds then these should be pulled or a weed killer applied.
TREATMENT
Given the nature of the surface you have two options when it comes to the cleaning:
Option 1 After brushing, spray the area with RAPID MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batiface. This kills the growth on contact and should be left on the surface for between 30-60 minutes. After which the area should be washed with either a hosepipe and brush or, ideally, a SMALL pressure washer. The pressure washer not only rinses the product but also removes the dead growth from the surface. This method is especially effective when surfaces become slippery during the winter months as the Batiface gets deep into the surface to ensure all of the growth is dead and can be rinsed away. Batiface also makes the cleaning of the surface easier and you will find that once rinsed the surface has retained much of its original colour.
Once the area has been cleaned, and is dry, we advice the application of CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR. As it is impossible to remove all of the spores (you can't see them!) this will kill them and stays on the surface to inhibit re-growth.
If this is not applied then you will still have a nice, clean surface but it will have no protection against the new spores that will start falling upon the area the moment you finish cleaning.
Option 2 Spray the area with CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER (Batimoss CR). Batimoss CR will kill the growth and spores but is then designed to be left upon the surface where it can inhibit re-growth. Batimoss CR should only be sprayed on to a DRY surface.
FUTURE You should always try and keep the area clean and remove leaves and anything that causes shade across the area especially during the winter months. Brushing the surface occasionally will help and does take too much effort.
In addition to this you can treat it every 10 - 14 months simply brush the surface and, on a dry day, apply a new coat of CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR or just wait until the first signs of new growth appear before applying a new coat.
