Flat Roof

Moss Killer - Killing & Removing Moss on a Flat Roof Flat roofs, whether the standard 3-layer asphalt or roofs constructed from rubber-based compounds, are all susceptible to the growth of moss. Roofs covered with stone chippings do tend to grow moss quicker that the areas with no stones as the chippings provide the perfect growing area. The benefits they bring to the roof surface, protection from frost and heat, also helps the moss spores to collect and grow.
The treatment of a flat roof is very straight forward and requires nothing more than a brush, bucket and a sprayer.
PREPARATION
This is the most important part of the cleaning process. Given the nature of the roof you firstly have to be careful where you walk on a roof, especially on an older surface. We recommend using a sheet of timber to stand on so that your weight is spread across the surface and you will not cause any damage to the surface. Always wear soft soled shoes, if possible, and if a board is not available then walk carefully across the surface.
If the roof has stone chippings then brush them to one side. This brushing will remove much of the moss growth as well as allowing the roof to dry. If the roof has no chippings then brush the surface to remove much of the growth and debris.
TREATMENT
Once dry, spray the area with CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR will kill any remaining growth and, most importantly, the spores but is then designed to be left upon the surface where it can inhibit re-growth. Batimoss CR should only be sprayed on to a DRY surface.
At this point you could collect the chippings in a bucket and rinse them. This will remove dirt and any growth that may be present.
Once the CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER - Batimoss CR is dry them spread the dry chippings evenly across the surface. Once this is done apply a second coat of Batimoss CR across the area ensuring that both the chippings and visible roof coating is covered.
FUTURE You should always try and keep the area clean and remove leaves and anything that causes shade across the area especially during the winter months. Brushing the surface occasionally will help and does take too much effort. This will also allow you to ensure the stone chippings a spread evenly across the surface as, through time, they can move leaving areas of the roof covering exposed.
Given the nature of a flat roof water will settle, especially on older surfaces, therefore it may be required to repeat this process every 12-24 months by applying a new coat of CONCENTRATED MOSS & ALGAE KILLER (Batimoss CR) or just wait until the first signs of new growth appear.
